    Bloomberg Prognosis:
    Advancing Health Equity in Dermatology

    November 29, 2022

    About The Event

Strides have been made in medical dermatology to address the unique needs of communities of color. However, many patients continue to face biases in access, treatment and care. An overall lack of patients with adequate exposure to research, diversity in clinical trials and representation of darker skin tones in dermatology poses risks to Black and brown populations. Historically, ethnically and racially diverse groups have harbored a distrust of the medical community. Misinformation and lack of workforce diversity fuels skepticism. Patients of color are also disproportionately impacted by socioeconomic obstacles and lack of visibility, which often leads to incorrect diagnosis and neglect. The health care community must cultivate the competence needed to fight these engrained disparities. We will convene health industry leaders, researchers, practitioners and advocates for in-depth conversations on dermatological disparities and various ways to accelerate equity in dermatology.
